STAY TRUE: KING STAMPEDE/BOUNDLESS
We caught up with our homie – Teddy King from King Stampede/Boundless to do a shoot for our Stay True video project. Teddy is the store manager for Boundless in Williamsburg Brooklyn and is also in charge of sales, pr and distribution for their in house brand – King Stampede. Teddy is also an ill DJ who spun at our last Bamboo Banger party but that’s a whole nother interview, I digress. The shoot at Boundless was real cool. It went well and definitely one of the interviews that’s a must see once we finish with the project. I bet you don’t even know how the name King Stampede came around, you’ll just have to wait and see. I took some pics from the shoot. Check it out. Thanks for the gear too, Teddy! That Beginner’s mind crewneck. Sick. That’s all I’m going to say for now.
Boundless artwork at the entrance..crazy dope. I love that the letters are actually characters..

STAY TRUE: PESU.
I spoke of Pesu a while back and we recently got a chance to shoot him for our Stay True project. Pesu is an amazing artist and it was a pleasure doing this shoot. He’s great and entertaining on camera too so definitely look out for this interview when the video drops. We had a good time at the shoot…shout out to the homie Yaz for making it happen. We’ll definitely be working on other projects with Pesu. You folks and the rest of the world are in for some real treats. Here’s some pics from the shoot.
Pesu..rocking a sweatshirt that looks kind of familiar. Here.

STAY TRUE: TARA McPHERSON.
We got a chance to do a shoot with the beautiful and super talented artist – Tara McPherson for Stay True. After postponing for a couple of weeks due to Tara’s busy schedule, we were able to finally make it happen. Thanks a ton, Tara! We had a great shoot with Tara..our on and off camera conversation was really interesting and her work is amazing. I must say though, I was a little overwhelmed, knowing who she is. Not only was I in her studio with a lot of her work – art, toys, posters etc but she’s gorgeous and crazy down to earth too. She was very welcoming and the video shoot went better than we could have expected. Definitely something for you folks to look forward to. In the meantime, here’s a couple of pics I took from the shoot…Enjoy.
here’s Tara…and some pieces of her artwork behind her…

Jon Blak filming Tara….

her artwork is influenced by her interest in Astronomy among other things…and you can see that with her paintings…I get a kind of “outer space-y” feeling when I look at them. The choice of colors also play a part in that and complete the experience, in my opinion…

Tara chatting it up on camera..I must say, she’s made for TV!…

and then we filmed her hitting up a Munny for me…Sweet!

Tara posing with the Munny…

and here’s my custom Munny by Tara McPherson…now one of the prized pieces of my toy collection.

I forgot to take pics of her artwork and toy collection which is something I do with all the shoots. Sorry folks. I did say I was overwhelmed right?

PESU LIVE.
One of the artists we’ll be filming for Stay True is an amazing artist named Pesu. Pesu is a Japanese artist based out here in NYC who’s built a strong buzz for himself in the NYC art scene. He’s done plenty of art shows – live painting and art battles, and his work is incredible. We’re going to be doing the shoot with him soon but this past Saturday, we got invited to see him do a live wall painting at someone’s loft apartment in Brooklyn and it was truly a great experience. The piece took him two days to do although it was only for a few hours a day and it’s all based on what the individual (Dan, what’s up!) wanted. It’s based on all the cities Dan has lived/visited and it also has a tag of Dan’s band name – TurnStylz. The piece came out really nice. I took a few pics. Unfortunately, we don’t have wide angle lens yet so it was kind of hard to catch a full scale shot of the whole piece but nevertheless, I got some great pictures. Dig in.

STAY TRUE: JARED DEAL.
As we continue to show you the journey to the realization of our Stay True Project, we caught up with talented illustrator/animator/toy designer – Jared Deal. We hung out with him at his spot in Brooklyn NYC and had a great shoot. Really cool dude and the interview went well. Jared along with a partner (Garnet Syberg-Olsen) have been putting out toys/work under their company – Carnival Cartoons and from the looks of it, they’ve got some heat. Thanks for the bagels and juice too, Jared! I took pictures from the shoot of course and here they are. Enjoy and keep checking in with us to know when you’ll be seeing the interview. It’s a good one…we’re going to be working with Jared on a couple of things in the near future too so stay tuned.
here’s Jared….

the art piece that started it all…Jared’s first art piece that was hung in Toy Tokyo..This was before he started making his own toys. Shout out to our friend – Peter Kato who was manager of Toy Tokyo at the time and let Jared hang his piece up…

even though, they may have slightly changed, you’ll notice that the characters are still the usual suspects – Buzz Carney, Harriet, Pierce jumping through a hoop…

also, Jared had a Ms. Pacman/Galaga arcade in his crib! How cool is that? I need one!..so so dope.

Hit up Jared here to see more of his work and other projects he’s working on…
