ALL LOVE.

Much love to everyone that stopped by the mobile shop this past weekend. We know it was crazy cold and windy in the city but yet a good number of folks still stopped by to buy stuff from us. Thanks, we appreciate it. We’re still amazed at how much we’re growing and the support we’re getting from people all over the world. It’s really incredible and we’ll always continue to say that we have the best brand supporters in the world. Hands down. As is our mobile shop tradition, check out a few pictures of some folks that stopped by. Also remember that you can always pick up items via our online shop as well. THE WAR OF ART.

Poster Boy: The War of Art

Dubbed by the New York Times as an “anti-consumerist Zorro with a razor blade, a sense of humor and a talent for collage,” Poster Boy deftly rearranges the text and images of subway posters, reclaiming walls from the ad industry one slice of vinyl at a time. This artful and clever repurposing of advertising has been hailed by the Guardian UK as “witty, web-savvy and economical… the only materials it requires are chutzpah, imagination and a 50-cent blade,” and, though the work exists only in New York City, Poster Boy has garnered a worldwide following.

Poster Boy: The War of Art is the first book to feature Poster Boy‘s renegade mashups-corporate copy slashed and re-pasted as sharp, playful puns and turns of phrase rich with innuendo and political punch. Under the edge of Poster Boy’s blade, beautiful models turn ghastly and iconic spokespeople become mouthpieces for guerrilla slogans.

Poster Boy proves no ad is safe from art’s incisive interventions.

LICHTENSTEIN.

I’m a big fan of Roy Lichtenstein’s work. In my opinion, he’s one of the greatest pop artists to have ever lived…and his influence still lives on. His style of comic book art mixed with parody is a form that I have always felt was genius. Genius in that it was something that you can relate to at all ages. Whether you’re the kid that just happens to like it because it is a comic book strip or the adult who reads the text, then looks at the image and gets the message, Roy’s work is something that will stop you in your tracks if you saw it. I found a few pictures of some pieces to put up here, but please do me a favor – go here to learn more about Roy and here to see a lot more work from him.

INFLUENCERS.

INFLUENCERS: How Trends & Creativity Become Contagious
This is a nice little video that discusses the idea of influence and creativity.

An influencer in our opinion is someone that stays true to them-self and does what they love/like regardless of popular opinion. An influencer is that individual that doesn’t care about being accepted by people because he/she would rather be comfortable being who they are, than trying to be something they’re not to fit in. Many people look at us as part of the new generation of creatives/influencers and while we appreciate the compliment, all we’re really doing is just being ourselves and doing something we love. It’s something that has powered our brand since day one, the idea of being yourself and is even embodied in our motto – Stay True. We’ve never been afraid to take risks or defy the norm, as long as it is something that we wanted to do. It just so happens that many folks find us interesting for doing that and we’ve now become part of a new class of creatives considered influencers. We even got invited for a discussion recently, by a big advertising agency that wanted to get our take on emerging culture and trends.

Check out the video. It’s a well done piece….and the one thing that we would want you to take away from this post, is to be yourself. Stay True.

SUMMER OF LOVE.

Our homie Eric Sosa just sent over his new video for his song – Summer of Love, one of the songs off his Rhymes & Noodles EP. Pretty talented dude and that’s not something I throw around loosely especially when it comes to music. The video is dope and as we start to get into the cold weather here in NYC, this makes us miss the summer even more. Check out the video and props to Eric’s handlers as well who are good friends of ours – his manager Danielle Thornton and Karsten, Anastasia, Vanessa of Frsh Pulp.

PANOPTICONS.

I saw this on Wooster Collective and found it very interesting.

panoptICONS addresses the fact that we are constantly being watched by surveillance cameras in city centres. The surveillance camera seems to have become a real pest that feeds on our privacy. To represent this, camera birds – city birds with cameras instead of heads – were placed throughout the city centre of Utrecht where they feed on the presence of people. In addition, a camera bird in captivity was displayed to show the feeding process and to make the everyday breach of our privacy more personal and tangible.”

ALL ABOUT.

Thanks to all the folks that stopped by our mobile shop this past weekend. We appreciate your support. One thing that has always been important to us is to meet and interact with the folks that buy our stuff. As much as we love doing this, what makes it even more worthwhile is all of you guys that stop by and show support by either buying an item/telling us how much you love our brand and mobile shop concept. It’s really super amazing to be able to connect with people from our city and all over the world like this…like Mario Carbone, a partner Chef at acclaimed Italian restaurant Torrisi…or the cool dad & son that stopped by and picked up a shirt & toy…or the guys from Switzerland that bought 3 shirts each and inquired about helping spread the brand out there (super awesome guys!)….or the young girl who really liked our stuff so much that she bought bigger sizes because we were sold out of the smaller ones for the tees she liked….or the guy who mentioned that he had been looking for us for a while and was super excited to have caught up to the mobile…or the guy who happened to see the mask we used on this shoot, and had to take a picture with the mask on…and all the other incredible folks that stopped by. And to think that this was all just from this weekend alone…not to mention all the other amazing people that have stopped by and the plenty more that will stop by as we continue to grow. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Check out the pictures below of the folks I mentioned above and some of the other cool people that stopped by.
