TOYSTREET.

We’ve been hard at work here at the Cookies -n- Cream lab on a few different things and are finally ready to announce one of the projects we’ve been working on. That project is a new event that we’re super excited about called ToyStreet.

Cookies -n- Cream presents ToyStreet. ToyStreet is a new event that will provide opportunities for toy collectors, artists and vendors alike to unite in a unique experience where they can buy, sell and trade designer toys and other related merchandise such as art, clothing, handcrafted goods, sneakers etc. ToyStreet will also include live painting and music performances by different artists.

The launch event will take place here in New York City on April 2nd, 2010 (Good Friday) and will run from 4pm – 9pm. The location for the event is 268 Mulberry Street between Prince St & Houston St.

At the moment, we’re accepting applications from all vendors/people who would like to secure a booth at the event. Please send an email to Toystreet(at)bakedinny.com to receive an application and more information. Booth space is limited and will be done on a first come, first serve basis. An official flyer for the event will be released soon as well as ticket information.

If you should have any questions, please send an email to Toystreet(at)bakedinny.com and we’ll be more than happy to assist you. We’re looking forward to a wonderful launch and this will be a truly unique experience!

Cheers!

DREAMS.

We like TV On The Radio. You should too. Here’s the video for Dreams off their 2004 album – Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes. Although it’s not one of their latest videos, I’ve always really liked this video. Quite interesting. Pretty cool that it was all shot here in New York City too.

OTHER ISH.

Fresh. Cool. Sick. Dope. Awesome. Nice. Yeah, just some of what people have said about this…but we kind of knew that already. After all, we did make it and we only make stuff that makes people use those kind of adjectives. Thanks folks, you all are far too kind.

Dig in some more right here.

Our bi-monthly (1st & 3rd Thursdays) NYC party – ILL Banger Thursdaze is going down again this Thursday. TOYNIVERSE.

We were down at Toy Tokyo a few days ago, doing a shoot with the owner Lev for Stay True Vol 2. Toy Tokyo is one of the stores that helped usher in the designer toys scene in NYC. Lev the owner has been collecting toys for years and has a long history with the scene. We got a really good interview with him and had a rare opportunity to film his private collection, which is not something he shares freely. I don’t even think his private collection has ever been captured on film…he has one of the best collections of toy art around, it’s like a private toy museum…you have to see it! Definitely something you want to look forward to on Vol 2! I took pictures of some toys in the store and you can check them out below. I wanted to take pictures of his private collection but we weren’t allowed to, we could only get it on film which is even better…so Stay True Vol 2 is already a classic in the making!

VIGOR.

Last night, I stopped by the Jonathan Levine gallery to check out their latest show. It featured the works of Doze Green, Josh Keyes and Saelee Oh – all incredibly talented artists. Saw a good number of friends down at the show too…unfortunately, I didn’t bring the camera with me so I wasn’t able to take pictures but it was definitely a great show. I really enjoyed taking in the pieces on display and admiring what made each person’s work unique in its own way. Check out some of the artwork that was in the show below, I took them off the Jonathan Levine’s gallery website and you can go there for more pictures/information. Enjoy…by the way, thanks to Jonathan Levine for the compliment on this t-shirt that I had on.

The 1st row of pictures are some of Doze’s pieces, second is Josh, then third row is Saelee Oh.

ARTISTIC.

Video for Jay-Z’s new single (On to the next One) off his latest album – Blueprint 3. Interesting video. I found the excerpt below on this site about the video and I think the writer did a great job of summing up the video. However, feel free to draw your own conclusions. That is the beauty of art.

“…The Sam Brown-directed video takes up the visual motif of 3s that was featured on the album cover, with trios of milk bottles, bullets and dudes in grotesque, Joker-ish makeup.

The abstract, montage-based video also has a samurai woman jumping in slow-motion with attendant billowing capes and straps, a couple dancers on piles of luggage, a visual equalizer made of electrical chords, and, my favorite, milk and flaming basketballs dropping in super-slo-mo.

The most conspicuous visuals (aside from Swizz Beatz hogging the camera) are three crystal-encrusted Damien Hirst skulls (pictured), which are doused in paint. At $100 million a pop, this gesture makes the video both the most expensive ever (okay, they probably used replicas, but still), and a brilliant piece of appropriation art and criticism. With this gesture, Jigga reclaims a piece of fancy jewelery that’s been masquerading as art for far too long, effectively turning it into a canvas for an abstract expressionist drip painting. Factor in the Koonsian shininess of the tagged Jaguar that appears during the first verse and Jay just might be New York’s most astute art critic.”
