MEET SKWAK.

If you’ve been following us here, you’ll know by now that we’re presently working on a new collection of clothing with an amazing artist out of France named Skwak. Skwak is a talented illustrator who has done work for brands like Nike, Levis, Microsoft, Artoyz (Paris) just to name a few. For those that don’t know who Skwak is, here’s his bio in English and in French…lifted from his website.

English: “…SKWAK is a french illustrator from North of France, His unique graphic universe (Maniac World) is soaked, choking. His works revisit the children fairy tales and the universal myths. The adventures his characters (the Maniacs) are living are inspired from our daily life (love stories, treason, manipulation…) but are exaggerated to absurd : they express the idea of “too much”, the idea of escalation, through power, wealth, plastic surgery, celebrity..”

here’s some of his artwork…his signature style of colors with lots of characters is very entertaining to the eye…and even in black and white, you can’t help but still be captivated by the characters and try to figure out what’s going on with the piece….

You can visit his site here for a whole lot more stuff from him. Expect a lot of wonderful things to come from us and Skwak. Lots of cool stuff for you folks. You should be as excited as we are!

Catch up on your Eiffel tower knowledge here..after enjoying the pics below of course…also while you’re doing all of that, make sure you add us on twitter so you can follow the brand’s every move – twitter.com/thecookiesmob (such a shameless plug, we should be ashamed of ourselves).

BUCKINGHAM PALACE.

What’s a trip to London without visiting the Buckingham Palace? I had to check it out. The sheer magnificence of this place is hard to explain. You have to see it to believe it. I took some pics which you can check out below. As you should expect, it was packed with tourists in front of it taking lots of pictures. Definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in the UK.

OLD SKOOL.

“….Don’t let me take it to the old skool…”

I saw this a while back and meant to post it here but it skipped my mind. It’s a site with a bunch of old skool hip hop flyers…majority of them were before I was born and I’m assuming most of you folks as well but it’s cool to see what kind of design work was done on party flyers back in the days. With the advent of computer programs that make design work relatively easy, nowadays anybody can practically create a flyer but can you imagine what it would have been like to create one back then? These were all done by hand with a bunch of different materials that are probably extinct today and it was only a select few that knew how to make flyers at the time. I’ve posted some of the flyers below but please visit the site here for a whole LOT more, it’s worth it…

MASAHIRO ITO (INU ART) PRESENTS 4 ELEMENTS.

Ok so if you’ve been following us for a while, you know we’ve been talking about things in the works. Well, here’s one of them…Dope.

Talented artist/toy sculptor Masahiro Ito of Inu Art Studio presents a new line of designer toys influenced by hip hop titled 4 Elements.

4 Elements is a collection of 4 toys that pay homage to hip hop. Each toy represents one of the 4 Elements of hip hop – MCing, DJing, Graffiti, Breakdancing. Artist/Sculptor Masahiro Ito says hip hop has always been something that he’s been drawn to as far back as he can remember. As part of Dave Cortes’ Inu Art Studio based in Brooklyn NYC, he’s played a hand in assisting with the sculpting of hundreds of toys but never worked on his own pieces. He worked on the 4 Elements collection which is based on hip hop, a culture that is one of the things that plays an influence on him.

DJ

MC

GRAFFITI ARTIST

B-BOY

The pieces are 4 inches tall and each one comes with an item that is representative of its element. The MC comes with a microphone, the DJ comes with a turntable deck, the graffiti artist comes with a spray can and the b-boy comes with a boombox. Each toy will be handmade in Brooklyn, NYC at the Inu Art studios.

Pieces will be limited. Prices and release dates will be announced soon.

I will advise you to get yours as soon as they become available because these pieces will move quick. Don’t sleep!

KEEP IT FUNKY.

Some funky house tunes to help you enjoy the wknd…courtesy of my introduction to funky house from my visit to London…

Crazy Cousinz feat. Calista – Bongo Jam

I’ve actually been into Crazy Cousinz music for a while, but I never knew their sound was considered funky house till now….

Donaeo – Devil in a Blue Dress

This song is one of the biggest songs in the UK at the moment. It’s by Gracious “Nappa Man” K (the guy in the gray sweatshirt) and it has a dance as well. I wasn’t able to find a video for the song but I also didn’t want to just post the song with showing the dance. So I found the closest thing to a video which is a clip of a radio interview with Gracious where he does the dance to his song with the radio crew….
Gracious “Nappa Man” K – Migraine Skank

if you want to get in to some more funky house music like I’ve been doing lately, just go to youtube and type in “funky house music” and you’ll get tons of links to different songs and mixes. Enjoy.

PARIS – PART 1.

As I mentioned before, I went to Paris for 2 days while in London and pretty much spent almost all of both days touring the city. Paris is an amazing city with lots of history…I took lots of pictures and since it’ll be way too much work to upload all the pictures at once, I will be putting them up in parts with this being Part 1. Enjoy this first set.

This is the area where I stayed in Paris – Republique…that’s the train station sign….

I walked around the neighborhood and caught some pics of some french graffiti…

I took this pic by Montmartre-Anvers…

..and I took these by Blanche which is an area close to the Montmartre that’s flooded with sex shops and the like..The area is also home to the infamous Moulin Rouge

These are just a few pics…I still have a good bunch that I’ll be posting on the site in different parts as I mentioned above. Next up will be my pictures from the historic Musee de Louvre…You definitely want to stay tuned for those.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE.

What up folks! Sorry for the lack of blog updates, I’m currently in London and being the resident blogger at the brand, it’s been kind of tough to update the blog as I run around London. However, we do have lots of good things in the works for our brand so just hold on tight. In the meantime, enjoy some of the pics that I took while hanging out at Trafalgar Square here in London and some of the surrounding streets. Really nice place to chill, packed with tourists and locals, and there’s lots of other historical places within walking distance. Enjoy! I’ll try to add more updates when I can.
