KITO – THE COOKIES MOB.
If you know our brand, you should know who KITO is. If not, KITO says “nice to meet you”. He’s our first in house designer toy and is part of The Cookies Mob. You may have noticed him on some of our clothing and if not, you definitely will as we continue to grow. For now, check out the artwork below of KITO in different colorways. We’ll also be doing a DIY one where you can customize/paint the whole body yourself. We’re super excited about KITO! So should you. You can check out the first sculpt of KITO as a clay figure here and then as a white prototype here.
This is the original KITO artwork and color…

PICASSO AT THE GAGOSIAN GALLERY.
You should go check this out. I will. Exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in NYC based on the work of Pablo Picasso. Really amazing pieces from the pictures I’ve seen. Below is all the info for the exhibit and some pictures of a few pieces, all taken from the Gagosian Gallery website which you can visit here to learn more. Enjoy.
PICASSO: Mosqueteros
March 26 – June 6, 2009
522 West 21st Street
New York, NY 10011
Tel 212.741.1717
Mon-Sat 10-6

I enjoy myself to no end inventing these stories. I spend hour after hour while I draw, observing my creatures and thinking about the mad things they’re up to.
–Pablo Picasso, 1968
“Picasso: Mosqueteros” is the first exhibition in the United States to focus on the late paintings since “Picasso: The Last Years: 1963-1973″ at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 1984. Organized around a large group of important, rarely seen works from the collection of Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, as well as works from The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Museo Picasso Málaga and other private collections, “Picasso: Mosqueteros” aims to expand the ongoing inquiry regarding the context, subjects, and sources of the artist’s late work. Building on new research into the artist’s late life through the presentation of selected paintings and prints spanning 1962-1972, the exhibition suggests how the portrayal of the aged Picasso, bound to the past in his life and painting, has obscured the highly innovative and contemporary nature of the late work.

I’ll definitely be taking some pictures when I go. Stay tuned.

NYLE – LET THE BEAT BUILD.
Cool video, check it out. It’s for an artist named NYLE that is managed by our good friends at Springshot (Sam, Archie, Wade & Beth). This video was shot in one take which is even more impressive for the way it came out. The original song belongs to Lil Wayne but this is NYLE’s version and it’s dope. I love the live instrumentation aspect of it. Shout out to all the NYU kids that helped make it possible too.

THE RAMP HOUSE.
If you’ve followed our blog for a while, you’ll know that we’re big fans of innovative architecture and design. I came across this article a while back and forgot to talk about it here but better late than never. Check out the Ramp House – a house that’s meant for skateboarding. Every surface in the house is skater friendly. I love innovation like this…so cool.

From the source – Designer Athanasia Psaraki, of Archivirus Architecture and Design, was tasked with creating a “skateable habitat” and she did just that, erecting ramps and bowls for nearly every structural element, rather than just walls and columns.

MUSEUM OF STREET ART – PART 10.
Yep, we’re still rocking. Here’s part 10 of our popular museum of street art series. For this edition, I wanted to try something different, so I’m introducing you folks to a technique called light painting. It’s not really street art in the sense of “street art” but it’s art nevertheless and interesting enough for me to want to feature in this issue. Below you can check out some random light art images I snagged online and to learn more, go here. Also, if this is your first time seeing our museum of street art series, then you’ve seriously been missing some of the dopest street art in the world, and I would suggest you start here to see what you’ve been missing. Till next time.

COOKIES -N- CREAM NOW @ ATMOS NYC.
Hey folks, Cookies -n- Cream items are now being sold at Atmos NYC. Atmos is a premier sneaker and streetwear boutique that started with a store in Japan and then came the NYC store in Harlem. It’s definitely a nice spot to get some fresh kicks and gear. I love the minimal design of the store too. Thanks to the folks at Atmos for the interest in our brand and we look forward to working with them on various projects. At the moment, they’ve got some of our Spring ‘09 tees which are almost sold out (thanks to ya’ll!), so hurry and stop by Atmos today!

DAVE CORTES ON FOX5.
I came across this interview that was done on our dear friend and genius toy sculptor/designer Dave Cortes a few years ago by FOX5 here in NYC. People in the toy industry definitely know Dave’s work and hold him in high regard but for those who need to play catch up, enjoy the video…and if you’re still yet to pick up one of Dave Cortes’ Pugzee, you need to stop right now and go here before they’re all sold out…or it’s your loss.

EAR CANDY: BAG RAIDERS.
Been a while since I did a music artist post. To be honest, we’ve been swamped like crazy over here. I have lots of pictures that I haven’t been able to post yet from different things we’ve done over the past few days/weeks but I promise I’ll get to them soon…tonight most likely…in the meantime, enjoy the music of this killer group – Bag Raiders. Coming from Sydney, this electro duo’s sound is pretty sick. It reminds me of JUSTICE a little bit but I still think their music is dope. Rather than agree with me, why don’t you go here and check ‘em out for yourself.

PUGZEE (JAILBREAKER VERSION) NOW AVAILABLE.
Okay, I’ve been praising and talking about toy sculptor/designer Dave Cortes‘ Pugzee for a while and it is now available for sale in our online store!. The version available for sale is the Jailbreaker version. In our opinion, Pugzee is one of the best designer toys available on the market. The detail on the piece is incredible. From the texture of the hat, to the “Pug-like” features, this is a piece that should definitely be in your collection if you’re into designer toys/urban vinyl or even if you just want a great piece of 3-D art. The item is now available for sale in our store and it is a limited edition toy. First 100 pieces sold through us will be signed by Dave himself! The piece costs only $29.99 and considering that it’s coming from someone of Dave Cortes’ caliber, it’s a STEAL!

Here’s info on Pugzee …
Acclaimed toy sculptor Dave Cortes’ first designer toy – Pugzee is a gangster Pug from Red Hook Brooklyn. While working for the mob bosses in the old days, he got knocked and was serving jail time. When he heard that his old stomping grounds of Red Hook, Brooklyn was undergoing changes (gentrification), he decided it was time to break out of jail and reclaim his old hood. Pugzee is out!
Standing at about 4.5″ tall, the piece comes with a removable hat, cigar, baseball bat, comic book, thought bubble cards and a dry erase marker to express your Pugzee’s mood by writing on the thought bubble cards!

Grab yours before they’re all gone! Don’t miss out on one of the best pieces of toy art ever produced!

BRAND BABY.
I saw this image online and thought it was pretty interesting. The picture is a statement of some sort even though I found none from where I jacked the image. To me, I feel it says we are building a generation of consumers. We are being exposed to products and advertising from a very early age and it’s almost like we are powerless to tuning out these messages (hence the brands being tattooed on the baby’s body). That’s just my opinion though, I’m sure we can all draw different interpretations of what this picture is trying to say. I have to admit, it’s a rather catchy picture though. Will definitely make you stop to look and figure out what’s going on. What is your opinion about the message from this picture?
