STAY TRUE: KING STAMPEDE/BOUNDLESS

We caught up with our homie – Teddy King from King Stampede/Boundless to do a shoot for our Stay True video project. Teddy is the store manager for Boundless in Williamsburg Brooklyn and is also in charge of sales, pr and distribution for their in house brand – King Stampede. Teddy is also an ill DJ who spun at our last Bamboo Banger party but that’s a whole nother interview, I digress. The shoot at Boundless was real cool. It went well and definitely one of the interviews that’s a must see once we finish with the project. I bet you don’t even know how the name King Stampede came around, you’ll just have to wait and see. I took some pics from the shoot. Check it out. Thanks for the gear too, Teddy! That Beginner’s mind crewneck. Sick. That’s all I’m going to say for now.

Boundless artwork at the entrance..crazy dope. I love that the letters are actually characters..

STREETS IS TALKING.

As you should know, we just dropped the Spring ‘09 collection which you can check out here (shameless plug), and the streets (NYC, blogs, people) have been buzzing about our pieces. The collection was received well and we really appreciate the support from everybody. Love is Love. I’m not much for bragging but I do have to say we put our foot in Spring ‘09! It only gets better though. Expect nothing but greatness from us and we promise to deliver nothing less. Here’s a couple of links to some popular blogs that gave our collection a mention…..

Check out the Josh Spear review here….screenshot below…

Also, check out what Format Mag had to say here

Thanks for the love people. Still some pieces left so grab yours before we are sold out.

EYE CANDY.

Ok, I really didn’t have much to post about today so I just figured why don’t we take a break from all the clothing, toys etc talk and do something different like….look at beautiful women. Yeah why not?. Not a bad way to start a Friday…I did a quick line-up of some beauties and here are the pics I chose. Please try to focus on the *ahem* artistic nature of these pictures. Enjoy.

LEGEND: SEEN.

Saw this interview on youtube of graffiti legend – Seen and felt the need to throw it up here for those who may not know who he is. Seen is a living graf legend aka the godfather of graffiti. This man is probably the reason why some of your favorite graf artists got into graffiti in the first place. Rather than write a long story about him here which I could have done, I’ll let you go research and discover him on your own. A simple google search should enlighten you. Respect.

SPRING ‘09 LOOKBOOK – ATTACK OF THE HERD.

Yes! The moment you’ve all been waiting for….the answer to all the “When are ya”ll dropping the spring stuff?” – Our Spring ‘09 collection titled ATTACK OF THE HERD drops today. Previously titled Who killed Streetwear, we switched gears and named the season ATTACK OF THE HERD even though the meaning and inspiration for the season is the same. For a brief overview of what the theme is, it’s pretty much an attack on the follower mentality prevalent in the streetwear industry. The collection consists of 4 t-shirts – Cool for Sale, Poserbusters, Church of Hypebeast and Dis brand, That brand. Click through each of the links to see the design and what inspired each piece.

Our lookbook (pics below) features talented up & coming MC – Emilio Rojas who has built a crazy industry buzz (don’t believe me, google him) and NYC event promoter/tastemaker – Jason “Che Guerrilla” Negron who always has the lowdown on all the cool events in NYC and co-hosts/throws our 2x a month Bamboo Banger Thursdays.

The pieces are now available for sale at our online store and the only other place you can get them is Goliath. They’re limited and once they sell out, that’s it so you better move quick…don’t want to be getting any emails asking “do you guys have any more of ……?” when you should have jumped on it when they were available. Thanks for the continued support and enjoy!

3RD WORKS.

Ray “Three” Robinson – Creative director at Gold Coin hit us up about an art show he’s doing in San Francisco. This is his first solo showing and if you already are or going to be in San Fran between April 3rd to the 30th, this is definitely something you should check out. I’m a sucker for colors, simplicity and work that is character driven, and it looks like Ray will definitely be showing pieces in that style. Here’s the info for the show and about Ray “Three”.

FRIDAY APRIL 3RD @ DSSF (520 HAIGHT ST., SF CA)

D-Structure is proud to present artist
RAY “THREE” ROBINSON 3

for his first solo showing
3RD WORKS

showing: April 3rd – 30th
reception: April 3rd – 8pm to 11pm

ABOUT THE SHOWING:

D-Structure SF is proud to present 3rd Works- a collection of recent works from artist and designer Ray “Three” Robinson 3. The show will be a first of its kind for Ray being his first solo showing to date. 3rd Works will not only be an introduction but a journey into the mind of the artist. Enter a world of bent reality where color and simplicity reign supreme. Flawless, heavy black outlines separate color allowing characters to come to life. Works will include acrylic installations on canvas, plexi glass and wood along with a very special new toy prototype. A limited run of prints, signed by the artist, will also be available at the reception.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Ray “Three” Robinson 3 is a San Francisco based artist and designer. His style can be described as colorful, character-heavy and pleasantly flat with aspects of both retro and contemporary design. Heavily influenced by graffiti and cartoons, his works span murals, canvas, sculpture, fashion, and multimedia design.

*PRINT & RETURN THE POSTCARD ABOVE TO ENTER A RAFFLE FOR ONE OF 3 ARTIST SIGNED PRINTS AT THE RECEPTION.

HEADPHONIES.

These toys are really cool and actually serve a function. They’re called Headphonies. Headphonies are designer toys + mini speakers combined together. I got a chance to listen to the sound quality with DJ Jon Blak while down at MyPlasticHeart and I must say the quality is really great..especially from something so small. I’m usually leery of when companies try to make toys that serve another function because most times, they end up creating a catastrophe but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by these little guys.

Each design is created in limited quantities which makes each one a collectible piece, but the fact that it’s a great speaker as well is what makes Headphonies worth the cost. Buy a couple of these bad boys or just one, hook up your Ipod and you’ve got a party. Here’s how the company describes them – Headphonies are limited edition portable mini speakers with artwork done by various artists.. I’m thinking about picking up some pieces and starting to sell them on here since I like what these little guys do. I’ll start with these two – First one is the Mad Ape designed by our friend and super talented artist – Mad. Limited to only a 1000 pieces worldwide.

and second one is the Soft Touch piece which is all black. I love the sleek and simple design on this piece. Also, it’s called soft touch due to the way it feels against the hand when you touch it. Really cool. Limited to 775 pieces worldwide.

If I do pick up a few, we’ll be selling them at $30 which is a great bargain. For the function that these little pieces of toy art serve, that price is a steal. Better grab one quick if and when I do put these up on our store.

SPRING ‘09 LOOKBOOK – BEHIND THE SCENES.

This past Sunday, we shot the lookbook for our Spring ‘09 collection titled “Attack of The Herd”. The shoot featured two of our homies – MC Emilio Rojas and NYC Event Promoter/Tastemaker Jason “Che Guerrilla” Negron. Two of the coolest dudes you ever want to meet. The shoot was fun and we had conversations about everything – from music to the economy etc. I caught a couple of behind the scenes pictures of Emilio and Jason in 2 of the pieces (Church of Hypebeast and Poserbusters) and here they are. Stay tuned for the lookbook.

The pieces will move quick so you better move when we put them up for sale or it’s your loss. Nuff said.

Here’s the info for the show. I’ll stop by for a few to check it out and then head to Katra for our Bamboo Banger Thursdays party. Feel free to swing by Black Ink.

He’s great and entertaining on camera too so definitely look out for this interview when the video drops. We had a good time at the shoot…shout out to the homie Yaz for making it happen. We’ll definitely be working on other projects with Pesu. You folks and the rest of the world are in for some real treats. Here’s some pics from the shoot.

TOYS FOR RICH AND HIP ADULTS.

I was making the rounds of my daily web hunts and caught an interesting article about designer toys and the art auction house – Phillips de Pury. To keep the suspense going, I’ll just let you go here to read the piece but I do have to say that it’s interesting to see auction houses start to take designer toys more seriously. It’s definitely a great thing for brands like us because people will start to understand that this is a serious art form. These toys are for adult collectors and there’s a huge community built around it. Go check out the article and here’s a couple of pics from the Phillips website. If you have a few dollars to spare, there’s definitely some good pieces here…and when I said a few dollars, I hope you know I meant in the hundreds and thousands. This is an art auction after all…

STAY TRUE: TARA McPHERSON.

We got a chance to do a shoot with the beautiful and super talented artist – Tara McPherson for Stay True. After postponing for a couple of weeks due to Tara’s busy schedule, we were able to finally make it happen. Thanks a ton, Tara! We had a great shoot with Tara..our on and off camera conversation was really interesting and her work is amazing. I must say though, I was a little overwhelmed, knowing who she is. Not only was I in her studio with a lot of her work – art, toys, posters etc but she’s gorgeous and crazy down to earth too. She was very welcoming and the video shoot went better than we could have expected. Definitely something for you folks to look forward to. In the meantime, here’s a couple of pics I took from the shoot…Enjoy.

here’s Tara…and some pieces of her artwork behind her…

Jon Blak filming Tara….

her artwork is influenced by her interest in Astronomy among other things…and you can see that with her paintings…I get a kind of “outer space-y” feeling when I look at them. The choice of colors also play a part in that and complete the experience, in my opinion…

Tara chatting it up on camera..I must say, she’s made for TV!…

and then we filmed her hitting up a Munny for me…Sweet!

Tara posing with the Munny…

and here’s my custom Munny by Tara McPherson…now one of the prized pieces of my toy collection.

I forgot to take pics of her artwork and toy collection which is something I do with all the shoots. Sorry folks. I did say I was overwhelmed right?
