GOT ROJAS?
We linked up with Emilio Rojas – an ill MC from Rochester NY (now residing in Brooklyn) to film some footage for our Stay True piece on him. He had a show last night, here in NYC and we were able to get some footage that we’ll also be using when we do the interview with him soon. Check out the pics from the show and listen to Emilio’s music. He’s nice. I’m feeling his wordplay and flow, plus his music actually has content that’s worth listening to. Definitely one of the few dudes that stands out as far as new hip hop is concerned.

Expect the interview with Emilio to drop here in the very near future. Stay True!

EAR CANDY: DRAKE.
Drake is dope. In my opinion, he’s the best up & coming rapper in hip hop right now. His flow, delivery, cadence…everything is on point. Check out the freestyle below where he ripped Kanye West’s beat to shreds…and then go here to download his new mixtape titled Drake: So Far Gone. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
and he sings too…better than some of these r&b cats…but what impresses me most is his rap skills. No wonder Lil Wayne snatched him up quick. Expect great things from Drake. He gets our co-sign.

FEMALE BANKSY.
This is cool as hell. Our friend – Jim Chan sent me this article about a 10 yr old female graffiti artist being dubbed the “female banksy”. Her name is Solveig aka Sol and she’s from the UK. You can check out the article here. It’s great to see stuff like this. I like her work too. I’m feeling the playfulness and style of it. Hope she keeps it up. Maybe one day, she’ll be selling pieces for lots of money like Banksy. Here are some pictures of her and her work.

STAY TRUE: JARED DEAL.
As we continue to show you the journey to the realization of our Stay True Project, we caught up with talented illustrator/animator/toy designer – Jared Deal. We hung out with him at his spot in Brooklyn NYC and had a great shoot. Really cool dude and the interview went well. Jared along with a partner (Garnet Syberg-Olsen) have been putting out toys/work under their company – Carnival Cartoons and from the looks of it, they’ve got some heat. Thanks for the bagels and juice too, Jared! I took pictures from the shoot of course and here they are. Enjoy and keep checking in with us to know when you’ll be seeing the interview. It’s a good one…we’re going to be working with Jared on a couple of things in the near future too so stay tuned.
here’s Jared….

KID CUDI – DAY ‘N’ NITE VIDEO.
I hate to jump on the bandwagon because I’m sure you will find this video on every “cool” blog on the internet but granted that I did talk about this video back in Dec ‘08 and posted pictures from the video shoot, I think it’s only fair that I post the actual video which just dropped recently. Enjoy.

MUSEUM OF DESIGNER TOYS – PART 1.
As an offspring of our Museum of Street Art Series, I am happy to announce a new installation we’ll be doing here – the MUSEUM OF DESIGNER TOYS (MODT pronounced MOT..the (D in DT) is silent). As I will not assume that everybody knows what a designer toy is, here’s the definition derived from Wikipedia – Designer toys is a term used to describe toys and other collectibles that are produced in limited editions (as few as 50 or as many as 2000 pieces) and created by artists and designers. To learn more, read the full entry here.
The MODT will be an ongoing series that will showcase designer toys from different artists/designers around the world. We eventually hope someday to be able to make this an actual museum here in New York City (with your support) but for now, it’ll strictly be images online. Here’s all the basic info about the MODT series -
1.) There will be a new MUSEUM OF DESIGNER TOYS (MODT) installation every 10 days or so (I say or so because we’re also busy working on our own clothing and toys here at Cookies -n- Cream amongst other projects so we tend to be extra busy sometimes…so bear with us, plus the wait makes the next installation more exciting anyway. Gives you something to look forward to.)
2.) Each installation will showcase between 6 – 10 pieces and I will not know exactly what will be featured in each installation until the day of. This is as much a process of discovery for me as it will be for all of you and to be honest that’s part of what makes doing this enjoyable.
3.) I may do a feature installation every now and then that will feature only the works of one artist/designer. The feature will include original pieces and custom work by the artist/designer.
4.) If there is a toy/artist you feel we should know about and would like to inform us, please send an email to us at theMODT(at)BakedinNY.com
5.) Of course, all images belong to the artist/brand/designer and the MODT is only for public entertainment and information.
6.) If you would like to purchase a particular piece (provided it’s not sold out or a one of a kind piece that’s been bought already), please let us know by sending an email to MODTcrew(at)BakedinNY.com and we will contact the artist/designer and provide you with all the necessary information. Most of the artists/designers are also available to do one of a kind custom pieces if you are interested.
7.) You might agree or not agree with some of the choices in each installation. That’s fine. Taste is a subjective matter and each person is entitled to their own opinion about the pieces in each installation. That’s the beauty of art – people being able to derive their own opinion/feeling(s) about each piece. So stop bitchin’ if you don’t agree with any of the choices and just enjoy the installation.
That’s it. Enjoy the MUSEUM OF DESIGNER TOYS – PART 1.

HI-DEF BY KaNo.
As I mentioned in the Comic Con post, I bought one of our homie KaNo’s new piece – Hi-Def. Standing at 10″ tall and rocking a slick black jacket, Hi-Def is a cool toy. Looking at the piece, you can tell it’s inspired by music. From the name – Hi-Def (Hi-Definition) to the headphone style head and the 2 toy vinyl records that it comes with, the musical inspiration is written all over this piece and that’s one thing that I really appreciate about it. Music is one of the things that influences the Cookies -n- Cream brand so Hi-Def is definitely a designer toy we can rock with.
Limited to only 100 pieces and I’m not sure if there’s any left but you can check with KaNo here. Here’s some pics of mine. Signed by KaNo of course….

TRISTAN EATON & BILLY BANANAS.
I went to Tristan Eaton & Thunderdog studio’s party which I mentioned here and had one hell of a time. Met with Tristan who is probably hands down – one of the coolest guys you’ll ever meet. Me and Jon Blak felt like we had known him for years…really good dude. Super down to earth too. After grabbing a few drinks and chilling with Tristan, we snatched up one of the exclusive toy piece at the event – Billy Bananas. The piece is mad dope. Comes with different accessories in the can…mine came with a toy 40oz..yes a toy 40oz. Funny thing is when you purchased the toy at the party, they would give you a real 40oz to drink but the 40’s were done by the time I bought my piece so I had to settle for a shot of something I can’t recall but was strong and sweet…Anyway, enjoy the pics I took of my Billy Bananas below. It’s one of a hundred so it’s super limited…not sure if there’s any left but feel free to check with Tristan at ThunderdogStudios.

signed by Tristan….

Here’s a pic of Tristan and his lovely girlfriend…

I found out too that Tristan’s girlfriend just got into the music of the late great JDilla…that’s cool because JDilla was a genius. Tris, let me know if she needs some more Dilla stuff and I’ll send some music your way!!!

We stopped by the Spring look book shoot for FLUD watches the other day and I must say, they have some pretty nice pieces coming out…So far, my favorite piece from FLUD is the Boombox watch but it has some serious competition because they’ve got some real heat. Maybe one of the cats from FLUD will see this and throw me a free one…that would be nice…very nice. Our homie – Jason “Che Guerrilla” Negron was in the shoot and I took a couple of pics..here ya go.

Been meaning to mention Posterboy on here but it kept skipping my mind. I love this dude’s work. Rather than me tell you about it, I’ll let you experience it by digging into the below….
Also, I caught this in the NYTimes today about Posterboy. Hope it’s not true…doesn’t the city/police have better things to do with taxpayer money than chase down artists?
Check out more of Posterboy’s work here.

BAMBOO BANGER: ILL P.
As you should already know, this Thursday will be the launch of our 2x a month Thursday party called Bamboo Banger. We’ll be doing it on the first and third Thursdays of every month. See that nice young lady below, her name is ILL P and she’s a dope DJ that’s been tearing up the downtown scene in NYC. Did I mention that she’ll be one of the DJ’s at our event? Yeah, I did. It’s going to be one hell of a night this Thursday. I would advise you to come down..and get there early too.

by the way, the pictures above were taken of ILL P at her 2x a month Wednesday party she does at The Delancey (2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month). Shout out to Jeffro from Raised Fist Propaganda for the ill photography above.

STAY TRUE: KANO.
Did another shoot for the Stay True project with the talented KaNo. The shoot was cool as hell and KaNo is definitely a good dude to be around..lots of laughter and talk about toys, hip hop etc. For those who may need to play a little catch up, KaNo is one of the illest artists/toy designers in the urban vinyl movement right now. He’s managed to carve a strong name for himself in a relatively short amount of time..and it’s all based on substance because his work speaks for itself. No fluff here, he’s the real deal. What I love so much about his work is that he fuses his creations with a NYC attitude/culture that most of us folks that grew up on hip hop and in inner city neighborhoods can relate to. Now that’s “Staying True” to its truest meaning.
He’s fun on camera as well and it’s definitely one of the interviews that you folks should look forward to. KaNo should have his own show. (cut me a check if it happens, KaNo!)….We did the shoot at the toy store MyPlasticHeart in NYC…shout out to Vincent Yu from MyPlasticHeart too for letting us shoot at their spot. Here’s some pics I took from shoot…enjoy and continue to stay tuned for when you’ll be able to see the video…
the Kid KaNo himself….breaking down some of his art pieces.

sick…sick art from KaNo…

KaNo’s toy pieces (Moneygrip, Bodega and his latest creation – Hi-Def)…

and his latest piece – Hi-Def…so so so so dope!

look out for some projects we’ll be doing with KaNo too…Hit him up at www.Kanokid.com. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this interview when we drop the footage.

STAY TRUE: SKET-ONE.
We caught up with the amazing Sket-One for our Stay True Project. While we’re not ready to reveal all the details about the top secret video project at this point, we’ve been showing pictures from some of the shoots – TooFly, Dave Cortes, Peter Kato (Astromongers), Ali Vegas….Stay True is going to be so ill. Stay tuned people.
The shoot with Sket-One was real dope…very humble and cool dude. Crazy talented…I’ll say it again so you can really get the point…Crazy TALENTED. This dude’s work is the definition of great. The detail, the willingness to push the envelope, the scope of his work and let’s not even mention the fact that he’s an O.G graffiti head….you gotta give respect where it’s due..and Sket has earned all of ours. On and off camera, we talked about everything from toys, to graffiti in the early days and now, to hip hop etc…Sket was a DJ too in the past, something a lot of folks might now know. Here’s some pics I took from the shoot and Sket’s toy collection…This collection is actually just a small fraction of what Sket has, there’s stuff in boxes that’s not even unpacked because there’s not enough space for everything…Also, the most important thing about his collection is the pieces and not more so the quantity. He has some of the most sought after designer toy pieces…It was an honor just being there seeing the collection and chopping it up with Sket. I took lots of pictures…Enjoy.
The legend himself – Sket-One….

couple of Mad L’s…

Sket’s Ripple..different styles….

Ripple close-up….

First ever Kidrobot toy – Cheech Wizard by Mark Bode…

peep that Kidrobot piece all the way in the back…close-up coming in a few more pics….

more Ripples…super dope custom pieces…

a view of some of the collection…

remember this piece from above…yeah it’s the Kidrobot Jenga…one of a kind at the moment and guess who has the only one. You’re looking at him…

Whoopi Goldberg owns this piece….yeah, theeeeee Whoopi Goldberg…

close-up of Mark Bode’s Cheech Wizard……

peep the Yellow Buckeye Rot by Sket…and it’s giving the middle finger…I love it…

This dunny is one of a kind…it was originally supposed to be purchased by Christie’s auction house but wasn’t and Sket has the only one…by the way, Christie’s also has a one of a kind Sket piece too – the Ketch-up Dunny.

..HP sauce Dunny….

One of Sket’s tattoo…with a tag by one of graffiti’s legends – SEEN…How freaking ill is that?!

a one of a kind Sket custom piece..Evil Knievel Storm Trooper…sick.
Check out Sket at www.Sket-One.com…we’re going to be working with Sket on some things in the near future so definitely keep checking in with us…I’ll give you a hint to one of the things we’ll be doing…KITO custom by Sket-One. Nuff said.
