COOKIES RULE.

This is funny and dope…Somebody sent me a link to a website where the words from the Wu-tang clan song – C.R.E.A.M (Cash rules everything around me) was re-worded to show the point of view of a person with a sweet tooth. It’s from a baking blog called Bake & Destroy and they titled it “Cake Rules Everything Around Me”. I’ve posted the lyrics below. To add our own flavor to it, I took out “Cake” and added “Cookies”…For added entertainment, I thought I’d put up a picture of some freshly baked cookies as well. Enjoy.

I grew up on the sweet side, the chubby cheek side
Candy insides, ain’t no lie.
At ice cream shops, with moms and pops
Banana splits with cherries on tops.

Hungry youth, rockin a sweet tooth
Only times I’m full’s when I’m asleep- truth!
I’m all over the snacks like icin’ on a sweet bun
First I eat this one, then I eat that one.

It was a dream for a teen who was a sugar fiend
Started snorting Pixie Stix at sixteen
Never talking to no fellows, busy eating marshmallows
Getting sick off licorice sticks.

No question I would quake for a chocolate milk shake
What I want, I will take
No question I’m no rookie when it comes to eating cookies
Steering clear of veggies like yo dad steers clear of bookies

My life never changed, I’m doing much the same
Sneaking bits of frosting like I’m insane.

Figured out I why I chose this route
Life’s too short not to dine out

Making cupcakes, I call’s em C’s
Rollin in buttercream, flossing like G’s
Yo- bakers respect me, my dentist detests me
Ch-chick-POW! I gotta go eat now.

Cookies Rule Everything Around Me
C.R.E.A.M.
Get the sugar
Choco- choco milk y’all

Just in case you wanted to compare or listen to the real Wu-tang song, go here. Funny thing is that, with the way music is now, I won’t be surprised if somebody made this into a real song (C.R.E.A.M spoof) and made millions off it….

POSERBUSTERS.

This is the last piece of our “Who killed Streetwear?” Spring ‘09 collection of t-shirts. We’re dropping 4 pieces – Church of Hypebeast, Dis Brand That Brand, Cool For Sale and Poserbusters. As mentioned before, the theme of the collection is a parody of certain attitudes/mind frames evident in the streetwear scene. We’re basically poking fun at some of these views while still bringing these issues to the forefront. Look at it as us expressing what’s been on the mind of a lot of folks…

Here’s the parody behind this piece – As most of you probably already know, skateboarding culture has exploded past the core skate crowd within the last couple of years. There’s tons of big brands and small brands in different industries that are tying their products to skateboard culture in order to appeal to this whole “cool” audience associated with the culture. Some of the core skaters who’ve been doing it for years hate this, while others look at it as an opportunity to finally be able to make some money doing what they love. Hate or Love it, it is what it is and in my opinion it was bound to happen.

However, now that skateboarding has somewhat become “mass culture”, it has left behind certain side effects that doesn’t sit well with some folks and that’s the idea behind the Poserbusters piece. Being from NYC where skate culture has always been strong and supported by a core crowd who were mostly looked at as outcasts, this new found infatuation with the culture by big and small business has transformed the NYC skate scene and I’m sure it’s the same in other places around the world. What is happening is that new kids/people are being introduced to skateboarding who would have never thought about doing so before and this is happening in parts of NYC where if you skateboarded years ago, you would have been picked on for doing so or looked at as a weirdo. Now there’s nothing wrong with this and we’re all for people being open to the skate scene because it gives a lot of these kids something to do with their time rather than trying to get in trouble with doing other things but what is funny is the people who carry skateboards with them but don’t actually skate. Now that it is “cool” to be a skateboarder, these folks walk around with skateboards to be seen and looked at as cool. We call them posers. In our opinion, that’s just plain corny and that is the ideology behind the Poserbusters piece. We’re busting all the posers. For added fun, we took the Ghostbusters logo and re-worked it to fit our purposes. Classic design.

Collection will be dropping really soon. Guaranteed to go fast so stay tuned for more info on when we’ll be putting them up in order to buy yours.

RECAP.

Let’s play catch up. While you were sleeping, we unveiled 3 designs from our Spring ‘09 collection titled “Who Killed Streetwear?” (last piece will be up soon). Museum of Street Art – Part 5 happened. Re-wrote a verse from a Jay-Z song and related it to us. Rihanna gave me butterflies. These two cats were caught in our Basquiat pieces…really dope by the way. Our homie – Frankie Velez threw an ill art show. We went to another ill art show. Told you why we love The Sartorialist. Gave you a sneak peek at one of our designer toys we’re working on…super excited about this piece and we’ll be re-veiling more details soon. Cookies -n- Cream got graffed up. I could keep going but I don’t know if some of you folks will be able to keep up…..let’s conclude this session for now with this

THE SCOOP: COBRASNAKE

Being the internet junkie that I am, I always find myself discovering so many new things, sites and/or technology before it reaches the mainstream…while I sometimes hate to admit it, I’m what some marketing people have to come to label as “early adopter”…the first to try or learn about new things. “Trendsetter”, “early adopter”, “geek” call it what you want, it’s this simple to me – I like to know about stuff…I’m an information junkie. I like to learn or know a little about things even if it doesn’t relate to me in any way and when it does relate to me, even better, I dig in like thanksgiving dinner. With that in mind, I’m starting a new series on here called The Scoop. The Scoop is where we’ll be mentioning things or sites that we like, as well as doing interviews with people we think are cool and identify with what our brand is about. To launch the series, here’s the first one – The Cobrasnake.

The Cobrasnake is a party photoblog run by Mark Hunter aka The Cobrasnake. For years, I’ve enjoyed visiting his site to check out pictures and I have to say, there’s only a few folks that can parallel this dude when it comes to taking party pictures. Mark will make you “hate that you didn’t go to that party” when you see the pics that he’s taken. The Cobrasnake is a dope site. Period. So put your feet up, grab a Cookies -n- Cream White Russian milkshake (our official drink, recipe coming soon – approved by “The dude“) and log on to The Cobrasnake. Trust me, you’ll be as addicted as I am. I lifted some recent pics he took of Kid Cudi on the set of his Day n Nite video shoot…enjoy.

DIS BRAND, THAT BRAND – REMIX.

As I mentioned before, we hadn’t decided on a color for the Dis Brand, That Brand design from our Spring ‘09 tees. Here’s two more choices we’ll be making our selection from. I guess you’ll just have to wait to see which color we choose once we’re ready to drop the t-shirts.

ROBOLUCHA BY MEKAZOO.

One of our own and resident toy designer – Derin aka Mekazoo just designed a piece called the Robolucha that’s currently available for sale here. Here’s the background on this piece – Robolucha is the first robotic Mexican wrestler. The concept is influenced by the clothing style of the lucha libres. Robolucha have 2 faces and you can change the facial appearance by turning his head. Mekazoo is crazy talented and we designed a toy together that will be one of our first releases under Cookies -n- Cream. I put up some teaser pics of the piece that me and Mekazoo designed here, but I’m not ready to release all the info/pics and the name yet. Don’t worry folks, very soon. In the meantime, check out the pics of the Robolucha piece by Mekazoo below.

Available for sale here. Limited to 300 pieces each color. Get yours before they’re all gone.

DAVE CORTES IN NY TIMES.

I found an article that was done on our toy sculptor/designer – Dave Cortes back in 2006. While Pugzee is his first designer piece, Dave’s been putting it down in the toy scene for years. Check out the article – Making Better Monsters and Their Super Rivals….image below.

Dope…he set an industry standard in toy sculpting. How sick is that?

DIS BRAND, THAT BRAND.

Here’s another one of the pieces from our Spring ‘09 collection titled “Who Killed Streetwear?“. This piece is called “Dis Brand, That Brand“. For those who need to play catch up, you can check out the first two pieces of the collection by going here – Church of Hypebeast and Cool For Sale. The whole collection is a parody of the streetwear scene and some of the issues that’s destroying the scene.

The idea behind “Dis Brand, That Brand” is that there is a saturation of brands in the market. I sometimes swear that there’s more clothing brands than the number of customers available. It’s unbelievable how many brands there are and new ones keep popping up. It kind of bothers me because how is the consumer supposed to make a choice when there are too many brands available and for the most part, a lot of it is just garbage. So the question becomes, how is the consumer supposed to make a choice when faced with an infinite amount of brands all fighting for their attention?. It all just leads to confusion and that is the theme of this piece – “Confusion”. The character is confused by all the different brands out there and can’t make a choice.

We are still deciding on if we should keep these colors so the colors may change but the design will remain the same. I really love the way the design came out though. Pretty sick.

NEW YORK NEW YORK.

Being that we’re hardcore New Yorkers, it was only right that I did this post..plus the fact that I think some of the stuff is funny as hell. New York Magazine just released their 4th Edition of “Reasons To love New York and I think it’s pretty accurate for the most part…and hilarious. Also, each reason has a link to a story that supports that reason. You definitely have to check it out. Go here.

Here are some of my favorite ones with the links to the supporting stories.

People will still do really crazy things to live here” – here’s the supporting story.
The Avant-Garde is our Playpen” – here’s the supporting story.
A legally blind, formerly adulterous onetime recreational coke user can be Governor” – here’s the supporting story.
Not even the Dolans can take the fun out of watching The Knicks” – here’s the supporting story.
We’re highly receptive to Bold, Brilliant, Mildly lunatic Public Art” – here’s the supporting story.
Even our hot dogs are political” – here’s the supporting story.

and my personal favorite -
Where else would a tour bus driver also be a King?” – here’s the supporting story.

Classic. Go here for the whole article.

Now you can understand why we dropped this one right here early this year. You’re all welcome.

SECRET LIVES ART SHOW.

On Saturday, we got invited to an art show in Brooklyn being done by some folks we know amongst many other people…it was titled “The Secret Lives of Samurais from The Land of Eternal Love”. I wasn’t able to make it down there, but partner in crime “P” rolled through and caught some flicks for us…Would have loved to see more of the artwork but he was too busy taking pictures of the girls…I don’t blame him though, judging from the pictures it would have been hard for you to focus as well…enjoy.

CHARLES HAMILTON – BROOKLYN GIRLS.

I don’t really co-sign a lot of new music nowadays because to be honest, most of it is garbage. When I do come across a new artist that captures my attention, I take the time to listen to some more material and then decide if there is something special there. I’ve been checking for the new artist – Charles Hamilton for a while now and I have to say I’m impressed with what I’ve heard so far.

His wordplay, freestyle skills and approach to music are all things that have come to make me appreciate this cat’s music. Also, I really dig the fact that he’s not afraid to be different and experiment with music….He’s from Harlem NY and is currently signed to Interscope. I have a feeling this kid is going to do big things…He just dropped the video to his song titled – Brooklyn Girls…the song has been out for a while but the video was just done. Some of you may be familiar with the song because it was also used on the HBO show – Entourage which we’re big fans of….anyway enjoy the video and check for Charles Hamilton. He gets the Cookies -n- Cream co-sign and that’s a big deal.

by the way, he has Lacey Duvalle in the video as well…nuff said.

HUSTLIN’ WEIGHT.

It’s funny but sometimes, I see direct parallels with music based on whatever I’m working on at any stage of my life…this time, it’s the song by Jay-Z titled “Rap game/Crack game”. It was one of the songs on his album – In My Lifetime Vol. 1. On this song, he compares selling drugs to selling music…while you may not agree with the song itself, it’s incredible how he drew the comparisons. Pretty accurate if you ask me (and don’t worry about how I know this) and this goes to show that he’s definitely one of the greatest MC’s to have graced the microphone. So, I took the first verse of the song and changed a few words here and there to reflect our situation, and lo n behold, you have our version titled “Streetwear/Crack game”…not as catchy as “Rap game/Crack game” but it’ll work. I guess this is a case of life imitating art huh? I highlighted the parts I changed.

By the way, we in no way advocate selling drugs..it is a serious offense and we don’t ship Cookies -n- Cream products to jail so you’ll miss out on all the goodness we’ll be dropping.

We treat streetwear just like, handlin weight
What they want we give it to em, what they abandon we take
Hit a designer with a concept, let him know what’s at stake
Leave his ass in Adobe, let him cook up a take
When it’s hot, start to plan for the next phase
Much luv to Goliath, boutique spots is the gate
But first we scope shit, advertise in every area
Let the streets know hey, we got some dope shit
Goin’ need a middle man, so we look to all the blogs
Let ‘em see the product, give em a promo show
Just a breeze, not enough to catch a real vibe
Then we drop the collection and let ‘em choose a size
Ain’t tryin to kill ‘em at first , just building clientèle
So when the pieces drops the first weeks it’s on sale
But when demand grows it’s time to expand yo
You don’t want no garbage papi our joints is limited fo’ sho’

here’s a link to the original lyrics for those who may not be familiar with this work of art from Jay-Z.

COOL FOR SALE.

Here’s another piece for our Spring ‘09 collection titled “Who Killed Streetwear?”. As previously mentioned, this whole collection is a parody of the psychographic mind frame of the streetwear community. I previewed the first piece of the collection – Church of Hypebeast here. This second piece is titled “Cool for Sale“.

Here’s the parody for this piece – All of streetwear is marketed or pushed based on something being “cool”. Everybody tries to brand their stuff as being “cooler” than the next person’s brand. So what is being sold is “if you buy this, you will be cool”. I can’t knock it and we’re guilty of the same thing (only difference is that we’re actually cool) but it just kind of gets tiring sometimes to see everybody using the same approach. With this design, we decided to just be upfront with people and actually sell “cool” instead of selling something based on the fact that you’re trying to make it look cool. It’s meant as a roast of this whole selling “cool” mind frame in streetwear.

This has got to be one of my favorite pieces of the whole collection because it’s so blunt and simple but still drives a powerful message to whoever sees it in a fun way. Everybody wants to be “cool” but “cool” itself is all an illusion. We got “Cool for Sale”..cheap too…get yours when it drops.
