CO-SIGN.
I listen to different types of music and enjoy doing so a lot. Discovering new music/artists/genres is one of the things I really like to do and I’ve introduced many folks to stuff they would never listen to on their own but end up liking. When it comes down to it though, I’m a true New York City hip hop head. I grew up on hip hop at a time when the music was dope and diverse…I remember unwrapping the plastic on many classic hip hop cds and the feeling I would get when I first popped in the cd…it’s indescribable. I’m getting goosebumps just remembering those days…Nowadays a good number of what is being labeled “hip hop” is garbage in my opinion and there’s really no substance to a lot of new hip hop music.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that the hip hop of today will never stand up to the standards of the past, so it makes no sense to compare both but still good music is good music, and garbage is garbage whether it’s from the past or present. A lot of these new dudes coming out now either want to be some variation of Kanye West, 50 Cent or Jay-Z or just on some plain corniness…other than a few standout folks, there’s really nothing that grabs my attention. However, there is one dude that I’ve always checked for and in my opinion, he’s probably one of the best young MC’s in the rap game at the moment…even better than Lil Wayne, yeah I said Lil Wayne or whoever your new favorite rapper is. He got in the rap game at 12 yrs old and has drawn comparisons to hip hop greats like Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas. He’s now 24 and though he’s never gotten his just due as one of the best MC’s in the game right now, I think it’s just a matter of time and proper branding/marketing…This kid is ill..his story telling and wordplay is beyond his age and to think that he was rhyming like this since 12 yrs old is pure genius. Folks, meet the Prince of NY – Ali Vegas. Google him or Youtube him…he’s the truth and one of the most underrated rappers in the game right now. If only he had the right marketing engine behind him…
Check out this new joint from him titled – Life In The City.
I’m probably going to try to get an interview with him at some point for the blog…stay tuned.

BARBARA KRUGER.
Some of you may have heard of her and some might have not..or you may have come across some work that was influenced by her or not, but Barbara Kruger is definitely another artist we respect and I definitely had to give her a mention on here. Barbara’s style of art is more visual/text based and is called conceptual art. What moves me most about it is the honesty in her work…it’s almost like stuff we think about but would never say out loud and she juxtaposes that with images that may relate to the text directly or abstract images that forces the viewer to find the connection. I was able to find some samples of her work which I’ve posted below but go here to learn all about Barbara Kruger and go here to learn about conceptual art…and watch out for a future collection that we’re going to do dedicated to Barbara. It’ll be called “The Kruger Affair”. It’s going to be sick. Nuff said.

by the way, the streetwear brand – Supreme’s logo is influenced by Barbara Kruger…in case you didn’t know…

DOPE ART.
I saw this on ebay by an artist named Christian Mengele and I thought it was sick. Of course, you can tell that his work is heavily influenced by Basquiat but it’s dope as hell. I love it when an artist pulls it off (Basquiat style) in a flawless manner and in my opinion Christian has mastered that…..

by the way, if you have a keen eye, you can see that there’s a little picture of a kid in there somewhere…that’s ill….
Check out some more of Christian’s work here..

THE UNIVERSE OF KEITH HARING.
Back in August, I did this post about Keith Haring. I just saw the preview for a documentary on him titled “The Universe of Keith Haring” and I can’t wait to see the whole thing. Looks like it’s going to be a good one. Also featured in the documentary are interviews from some of Keith’s family, close friends and associates such as Fred Brathwaite, A.K.A. Fab 5 Freddy, Jeffrey Deitch, Julia Gruen, Kim Hastreiter, Bill T. Jones, David LaChapelle, Hans Mayer, Samantha McEwen, Carlo McCormick, Roger Nellens, Yoko Ono, Kermit Oswald, Kenny Sharf, Bruno Schmidt, Tony Shafrazi, Drew Straub, Junior Vasquez, Gil Vasquez, and with Joan, Allen, Kay, Karen, Kristen Haring. THE COMING.
As you all know, our brand encompasses two creative outlets – clothing and designer toys. We’ve been working hard on finishing up with our first designer toy piece – KITO and we’ve just finished with the design for our second piece. I’m crazy excited at the new piece we will be developing and it was conceived by myself and our resident toy designer – Mekazoo from Turkey. I’ll be posting up images soon of the new piece and also what the name is but in the meantime, enjoy this sneak peek of the side profile.

They’re coming.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
We’re going to build the Cookies -n- Cream brand into one hell of a clothing/designer toys brand and we really appreciate the support from everybody so far. From the folks who buy our products to those who send in emails asking about our projects…and even the folks who just like to drop us a note occasionally, thank you…It’s been a challenge to this point and we still have a long way to go but we’re more than prepared for the battle ahead…Running from fights/obstacles is not something we do here and we don’t intend to start now.
As we continue to grow, we ask for your continued support. Help spread the word about Cookies -n- Cream…something as little as mentioning us to a couple of your friends goes a long way or shoot us an email at thecookiesmob(at)BakedinNY.com for ways you can get involved with the brand. We truly appreciate your help and there’s a lot of great things in our future…We’re here to stay.
Don’t forget to go to Goliath and support our brand.
Cheers!

SUCH A TEASE.
Newest member to the Cookies -n- Cream/The Cookies Mob family – Ryan aka Kasso Baku just hit me off with some sick sketches he’s been working on and they look soooooo dope! This kid’s a problem. To provide some background info, Ryan is a graf/street artist out of Brooklyn NY and he’s been crushing the scene on the low. His work is ill…check out some of his pieces that are being sold here…I’m excited to have him on board because I know we’re going to be doing a lot of great stuff together. Welcome homie!
Here’s just a lil tease…Ryan’s got crazy potential and you folks haven’t seen anything yet…We’re going to be dropping so much heat…that’s all I’m going to say for now…I like to let the work speak for itself.

Oh man..you folks are in for a real treat…

COOKIES -N- CREAM – NOW AT GOLIATH.
Cookies -n- Cream brand now available at streetwear boutique – Goliath NY. For all the folks asking us what stores in NY we have our brand at, this is for you. Our intention with the brand has always been to sell our own items ourselves and that is still our goal but since we get a good number of people asking us where they can buy our stuff in NY, we gave in and decided we would place our brand in a few select stores…only a very few and these are places we’ve carefully chosen for a good number of reasons. The first store is Goliath. If you can remember, I wrote about Goliath a while back and the owner – Rosemary is a good friend of ours. They carry stuff from all the major streetwear brands and since we’re THE streetwear brand to watch out for, it’s only right that we’re in there as well (yeah, we’re feeling ourselves and that’s because I know our brand is just as ill as any of the major ones out there..if not iller).

We’ll be adding a couple of other stores and will update you folks as we do. For now, you can hit up Goliath for pieces from our Fall ‘08 “Under The Influence” collection. The pieces have been moving quick and we were only able to give Goliath a few items, so I suggest you move like Flash (comic book) and get down there.
The store is located at -
175 E 105th Street
(Between Lexington and 3rd Ave)
New York, NY 10029
Phone : 212-360-7683
Email: goliathrf@verizon.net
Store hours:
Monday – Saturday: 12pm -7pm
Sunday: 12pm – 6pm
I told you I had big news…and we’re just getting started.

RICKY POWELL x SHQ.
If you can remember, I did a post a while back about the Ricky Powell event at SHQ. I didn’t get a chance to attend that night but I popped in the store today to kick it and talk biz with our friend/SHQ owner – Phina and was able to take a couple of pics of the Ricky Powell installation which is still at the store…The pictures were dope and timeless…I don’t think my pics below do it any justice plus the glare from my camera’s flash kind of got caught in a couple of the pics…it’s one of those things where you have to go there to get the full vibe..trust me, it’s worth it and you can always pick up some fresh gear as well…you can thank me later.

pics of SHQ storefront…say hi to Shiner when you get there…don’t worry, you’ll know who Shiner is when you get there…

by the way, I have a big announcement I’ll be making tomorrow…you’re going to want to check our blog tomorrow…yeah, it’s bigggggg news!

TGIF.
Yup…Thank God it’s Friday..it’s been one hell of a week. Fall ‘08 sweatshirts have been moving like fresh cookies and we’re almost done with work on the Spring ‘09 stuff. It’s been a serious grind..and we’re still grinding but I love it. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else (well maybe a few other things, but they might be too graphic to talk about on here but let’s just say it involves Angelina Jolie, Alicia Keys and Eva Mendes….we’ll leave it at that). We still have a few fall joints left so hit up the store and get yours…once sold out, that’s it. No re-ups folks. Ok, back to the TGIF thing…I’m sure you’re happy as well that it’s Friday so on that note, I figured I’d drop a classic music video/song that should have you on your feet…or at least rocking side to side.

HUSTLE AND FLOW.
Now that we’ve dropped the Fall ‘08 Collection which you can view here (shameless plug), we’ve been working like crazy on the stuff for Spring ‘09 and also our first set of designer toys, while still selling the Fall stuff (only few pieces left). The reception to our Fall ‘08 sweatshirts has been really great and we just want to thank everyone for their support. But it only gets better from here. Spring ‘09 collection is going to be bananas so there’s definitely a lot to look forward to. Glad you folks are riding with us on this journey.
